The Junction Addition
Basement 726 sq.ft. | Ground 625 sq.ft. | Second 643 sq.ft. | Third 643 sq.ft.
The existing two and a half-storey semi-detached house needed more space for the family. The basement was rearranged to be more efficient and hold a proper walk-in laundry room and full 3-piece bathroom. The ground floor was sectioned off into rooms so the walls were opened up to create an open concept feel across the entire floor. The front bedroom on the second floor had an old enclosed balcony so the walls were removed to create a larger and more functional bedroom. The third floor had low and sloped ceilings due to being in the attic so the roof was raised up and the third floor was expanded to cover the whole house footprint. This created a primary retreat with a large bedroom space with a walk-in closet that leads to a 5-piece ensuite overlooking the backyard. On the exterior, the Victorian front facade was maintained with the only change being the roofline to maximize the space of the third floor. The rear facade creates a modern look. The dark grey siding on the new addition and the horizontal black aluminum band with wood soffit contrasts with the existing brick and stone facade below.
