High Park Garden Suite

Ground 593 sq.ft | Second 461 sq.ft

An existing 3-car garage was situated in the backyard of this property with a shared right-of-way driveway with neighbours. Through adaptive reuse, the brick shell of the garage was maintained whilst new additions were added to create a 2-storey garden suite. A 1-car garage was kept on the ground floor while the rest of the space was converted to an open kitchen/living/dining space. A cabinet in the kitchen conceals a stacked laundry unit and a powder room was tucked under the stairs to the second floor. On the second floor, there’s 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with skylights in the bedrooms to bring in more natural light. A raised ledge over the staircase utilizes space that is usually lost above stairs. The exterior facade reuses the existing brick walls but they were painted grey to smooth the transition into the new modern design. A cedar clad canopy, dormer, and soffits add a colour pop while the blue grey vertical board and batten siding accentuates height. The raised seam metal roof caps off the second floor.
