Humewood Underpin

Basement 948 sq.ft. | Ground 960 sq.ft. | Second 748 sq.ft.

The basement of this Humewood neighbourhood home was left unutilized as it had a 6’-4” ceiling with a low beam running down the middle on concrete block supports. The crawl space at the rear wasn’t functional due to the limited accessibility to it. In order to remediate these issues, the basement was dug down and underpinned to achieve an 8’-2” ceiling height and the crawl space was dug out in order to make it a functional den/gym space for exercise equipment and a murphy bed. The low beam and concrete block supports were removed in order to open up the basement and create a functional rec room which includes a large sectional sofa facing an 80” TV along with a pool table, wet bar, and a built-in storage wall. A 3-piece bathroom was added with a glass shower. The mechanical space was enclosed and the new staircase has built-in storage drawers underneath. The basement is now a functional space of the home.
